Case Study: Eradicating Persistent Rodents at Dixon Central Shopping Centre, Sydney CBD

Client: Dixon Central Shopping Centre
Location: 1 Dixon St, Sydney NSW 2000
Industry: Retail & Hospitality

The Challenge

The building manager of Dixon Central Shopping Centre reached out to us for a lasting solution after two pest control companies were unable to solve the persistent rodent issues. The centre shares cavities with a neighboring facility, which is managed and maintained by a different company. As a result, the building faced a high level of rodent activity, and the problem had become a serious concern for both tenants and management.

The Solution

Our team began by conducting a thorough inspection of the site, identifying the primary areas requiring attention. We pinpointed the key trouble spots where rodents were gaining access and determined the most effective course of action.

We proposed a 6-week baiting program tailored to the specific needs of the site. Our team visited the premises weekly, assessing and adjusting the treatment plan as needed to ensure continuous progress. We focused on strategic bait placement and monitored the situation to guarantee we were achieving optimal results.

The Result

By the end of the 6-week program, we were able to reduce the rodent infestation by 95%—a remarkable achievement that previous pest control providers were unable to reach. The building manager and tenants were pleased with the improvement, and the building now benefits from a monthly maintenance schedule to ensure ongoing protection.

Conclusion

This successful intervention showcases the effectiveness of a tailored and systematic approach to pest control. Our team was able to deliver a comprehensive, reliable, and long-term rodent solution that not only addressed the immediate rodent problem but also ensured the building remains pest-free moving forward.

Why Professional Rodent Control Sydney is Essential

While DIY traps and baits might seem cost-effective, they often fail to address the root of the problem. Here’s why hiring experts matters:

The Limits of DIY

Temporary fixes: Over-the-counter solutions might kill a few rodents but miss nests hidden in walls or roofs. A Reddit user in Ryde shared how DIY efforts reduced mice sightings for a week—only for the infestation to return twice as large.
Safety risks: Misusing rodenticides harms pets, kids, and native wildlife. In 2023, a family in Liverpool accidentally poisoned their dog using store-bought rat pellets.
Lack of expertise: Identifying entry points or breeding sites requires trained eyes. Rodents can squeeze through gaps as small as 1 cm—something most homeowners overlook.
